In 2007, Big Brother returned for its eighth season and America got to meet the one and only Dick Donato. Dick was without question the star of the show that summer and he quickly became a pop icon in the process. Little to anyone’s surprise, he used his powers to cajole and convince the rest of his housemates to follow his lead…and he won the whole thing! Lock, stock, and barrel. His in-your-face style and his no-holds-barred approach to the show caused millions of viewers to either love him or hate him. There was no middle ground. He was nicknamed “Evel” Dick and no one has to wonder why.

Dick really was America’s favorite character and his onscreen relationship with his daughter Danielle was one of the things that endeared him to the nation. These two hadn’t spoken in two years by the time they wound up in the Big Brother house and the way they worked through their differences, forged an unshakeable alliance, and then went to the very end together made them the most popular contestants in the hit show’s history. I’ve been keen to talk with Dick ever since I saw him on the show. I knew his reputation and I saw firsthand how he handles himself, yet I also suspected there was a nice guy under there…and I am glad I was right.
